BERLIN (JTA) — Germany sentenced a Palestinian man to five months of probation for dressing his children in suicide bomber costumes at a Berlin demonstration.
The man was sentenced for fitting mock explosive belts to his children for a pro-Palestinian rally in April.
The man, who also was sentenced to 300 hours of community service, told the court he only intended to draw attention to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
David Duke to speak on Jews in Bahrain
NEW YORK (JTA) — Former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke plans to speak in Bahrain, where he will repeat his belief that Israel was behind the Sept. 11 attacks.
Muhammad Zuhair, Duke’s host, was quoted by the Gulf Daily News as saying, “We are aware of his background. We focused on the Zionist issue. Not many people are prepared to speak out against Zionism.”
French detain six for Tunisia attack
PARIS (JTA) — French officials detained three more people Monday in connection with a deadly terror attack earlier this year on a Tunisian synagogue. Three others were charged last week for their involvement in the attack.
One of those detained Monday was an alleged specialist in providing false documents, police said. Under France’s anti-terrorism law, they can be held for questioning without charges for up to four days.
Ukraine hosts big Jewish theater festival
KIEV (JTA) — More than 900 people attended the opening of a Jewish theater festival in Ukraine.
Fifteen theater companies from across the former Soviet Union are participating in the event in the city of Lvov.
During the festival, sponsored by the Jewish Agency for Israel and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, there will be educational programs, creative actors workshops and lectures on the history of Jewish theater in Ukraine.
